[World life]

The Amazon, an unexplored region, is a treasury of inherited resources.

The Amazon, the world renowned river of Brazil, flows 6,000 km from the Peruvian Andes, its basin crossing eight countries and occupying one-third of the South American continent.

Chapter 1

Aiming at the best fishery museum

This is a report by Mr. Yagami, who assists in aquaculture and museum management in the Fishery Resources Center in Technical University of Beni in Trinidad, Bolivia. More than 2,000 species of fish live in the Amazon and Characin (including piranha) and Parasilurus asotus are major fishes among the more than 2,000 species in the Amazon. Displayed in the museum are 1,000 specimen bottles containing 400 species of fish.

The unexplored Amazon Basin is one of the only treasury of inherited resources left for the human race. A large number of crude drugs exist as useful plants and approximately 1,000 species were examined. The results are to be reported periodically on given occasions.
